The New Lincoln MKZ Is Stuffed with Convenience and Luxury

Introduction

For almost two decades, the Lincoln MKZ has served as an affordable yet serviceable luxury ride, with lots of features to provide luxurious comfort. This vehicle is available as a Standard trim and a higher-level Reserve model.

Design

The Lincoln MKZ is designed as a four-door, five-passenger sedan riding on 18-inch machined five-spoke aluminum wheels with painted pockets. It adopts a smooth profile highlighted by a low roofline and subtle edges. On the front fascia, adaptive HID headlights with LED signature lighting flank a satin aluminum grille. The headlights include automatic high beams to brighten a longer distance in front of the car.

Attached to the front doors are a pair of power heated mirrors, which have integrated turn signals as added indicators to other motorists and security approach lamps to identify threats around the car. In the rear are a pair of taillights with LEDs for ultra-bright and long-lasting illumination, as well as chrome-finished dual exhaust tips. Further accentuating the MKZ are chrome inserts in the body-color door handles.

Performance

Powering the Lincoln MKZ is a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder (I4) engine, which produces 245 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque and is hitched to a six-speed automatic transmission. The gearbox comes with paddle shifters for more control over gear shifting to provide a more convenient and exciting driving feel. With its front-engine front-wheel-drive layout, the MKZ provides an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 20 MPG in the city and 31 MPG on the highways near Chehalis.

Features

Anytime you approach the Lincoln MKZ, it activates a greeting sequence named the "Lincoln Embrace." The headlights and taillights are activated, and the suspension lowers the vehicle to make it easier to get inside a cabin that greets you with two synthetic leather-trimmed rows of seats. The front seats have 10-way power adjustability, heating ability, and two-way power lumbar support, and the cabin is fortified by Active Noise Control acoustic technology to shut out unwanted noise and vibrations.

For infotainment, the MKZ provides the SYNC® 3 communications system, which combines an 11-speaker stereo system with an eight-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth® connectivity for hands-free phone calling and audio streaming, smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, a Wi-Fi hotspot for 4G LTE Internet access, and a trial subscription to SiriusXM Radio.

Also on board are features such as a 10.1-inch LCD gauge cluster for digital instrumentation, a universal transceiver for remote-controlling home features such as garage doors and security systems, auto-dimming on the rearview mirror to dim headlight glare from vehicles behind you, and the MyKey proximity keyless entry system with push-button engine start.

Safety

For restraint and cushioning in the event of a crash, the Lincoln MKZ provides two frontal impact airbags, knee airbags for the driver and front passenger, two front seat-mounted side impact airbags, and two roof-mounted side curtain airbags. Lincoln Co-Pilot360â„¢-which combines blind spot monitoring, lane keep assist, rear cross-traffic alert, pedestrian detection, and a pre-collision warning and braking system-is the vehicle's driver-assistance suite.

An SOS post-crash alert system provides a way to send for assistance in the aftermath of an accident. And MyKey comes with a seat belt reminder system (Belt-Minder), and the ability to permit speed and audio volume limit configurations. Other standard safety equipment on the MKZ include a rearview camera accompanied by rear parking sensors, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with electronic brake-force distribution and emergency brake assist, and electronic stability and traction control. The theft-deterrence mechanism combines MyKey with a perimeter alarm and a keyless entry keypad for greater security near Kelso.

Trim Level Configurations

Lincoln provides a few options on both trims, as well as enhancements and additions exclusive to the Reserve.

Regarding powertrain configuration, you can either stick with the standard front-wheel drive or opt for an all-wheel-drive system for greater performance on surfaces made slippery by rain, snow, or ice. If you choose the Reserve, though, you can opt for the larger and more powerful 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine.

On the Standard trim, you can swap the 18-inch wheels for 19-inch ones. On the Reserve, they are standard; more specifically, it gets 19-inch satin-finished 7-spoke machined aluminum ones with painted pockets. In addition, the Reserve's side mirrors have auto-folding ability to prevent damage to them. In the cabin, the Reserve is further elevated with a leather-wrapped steering wheel, perforated leather seat trim, 14-way power adjustability with four-way lumbar support and cooling ability on the front seats, and wood trim, with the option of adding steering-wheel and rear-seat heating.

In the cabin, the Reserve is enhanced with ambient lighting, and there are a pair of USB ports added in the rear for rear-seat passengers to charge their mobile devices. The SYNC® 3 communications system is bolstered with voice-activated navigation, trial subscriptions to SiriusXM Traffic and SiriusXM Travel Link, a single-disc CD player, HD Radio for digital radio quality, and the 14-speaker Revel Audio System. (You can even upgrade to the 20-speaker Revel Ultima Audio System.)

Active park assist and a forward sensing system are added on the Reserve to boost the rearview camera's capabilities. And in terms of interior accessories, you can add a cargo net and all-weather floor mats on both trims.
